The image shows hypocampal pyramidal cells in an organotypic cell culture. The cell has been injected with Lucifer Yellow.
This 3D data set has been obtained from confocal laser scanning microscopy. The size of the data set is 256x256x140, the size of one voxel is 227x 227x 150 nm.
The representation shows a shadow projection reconstruction that has been calculated using Imaris. This view lets us easily recognize the branch points, the spines, and the neurite topology. For the computer to analyze this automatically the volume image needs to be converted into a more suitable format.
